Uninstalling the driver didn’t help. There must be some driver missing or something because I have tried with different programs to record, Nero, Windows, sonic and even changed the DVD, it is something with my pavillion dv and the windows home XP.

When I update from windows or nero I choose custom instalation and it is true that dvdrma I have updated itunes it dvdfam again with the problems so no updates while it works. I would be grateful if anyone can help Thanks.

The problem is a conflict with ITunes registry changes used by ITunes to burn cds. I live in Spain so I had to tranlate it!


I had to call tech support like Monika Then, immediately upon reboot of the system, the computer recognizes new hardware is installed, and automatically adds the missing driver. I have the same problem.

My DVD showed up in Safe mode but had trouble in a regular boot up. CD rom trouble shooting: I have the same problem, I have tried everything, formatting, reinstalling deleting the upperfilters and lower filters, I can record CD ok but DVDS sometimes and then suddenly it stops recording and my DVD drive disappears, I restart and it reinstalls.

Uninstall the driver then reinstall. Try it and let us know if it is OK. You have nothing to loose in doing this. The new driver Rich attached couldn’t see the drive. I tried to uninstall the device, but the problem persisted. Either locate the firmware download link, or call HP Tech Support see previous post!

Since chaning the registry area can be dangerous to the health of your computer! In the end I think I need an Apple!

From what I’ve heard this is actually a problem caused by Microsoft and it’s software and not actually a problem caused by HP. Anyone gsa-40844n any more suggestions?? The only way it works in my case is by not downloading any windows updates specially the windows player ones. Sorry but you have to save and reboot again. If you look almost anywhere on the net you will find thousands no millions of people complaining that they are losing their DVD drivers from all manufacturers and models.
